In response to NASA’s Asteroid Initiative, an Asteroid Redirect and Robotic Mission (ARRM) option, titled the Robotic Boulder Capture Option (Option B), is being studied (by personnel within SMAB) that would capture a multi-ton boulder (typically 2-4 meters in size) from the surface of a larger (~100+ meter) Near-Earth Asteroid) and return it to cislunar space for subsequent human and robotic exploration. SMAB personnel are currently providing leadership and analysis support to this study.
